How it works
-
1
We watch for you.
Every two hours we check public notices, local news and the 7-day weather forecast for your water system.
-
2
A person approves every alert.
Each alert says what happened, links the source and explains what it can change in water, with the science cited. Utility notices pass through in their own words.
-
3
You act.
Every alert ends with three asks: test your water, host a community conversation about it, or start a Guardians of H2O™ chapter at your school or in your community.
What we alert you to
- Your utility issues a public notice. Boil-water, do-not-drink and lifted notices, relayed in the utility's own words as soon as we see them. Host a community conversation about it
- The forecast reaches Level 4 for your water system. Our 7-day Live Water Risk forecast reads weather against your system's water source. Level 4 is its highest level, about one day a year in Atlanta. Host a community conversation about it
- A proposed data center. Large sites can draw water for cooling from the same supply you use. A baseline before construction is the only way to show later what changed. Host a community conversation about it
- A spill or release. What spills upstream can travel to creeks, wells and water intakes, sometimes days later. Host a community conversation about it
- A rule changes. When a legal limit moves, what your system must meet moves with it. Health science may not. Host a community conversation about it
Alerts report public events and what they can change. They're never a verdict on your tap or on your utility.

No. In a medical emergency, call 911. For a possible poisoning, call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222. AquaAlert™ doesn't replace emergency services or your utility's official notices. Officials declare emergencies. We alert you so you can act.
No. An alert reports a public notice or a forecast near you and what it can change in water, with sources. It's never a finding about your tap. A test shows what's actually in your water.
A person reviews and approves every alert before it goes out. The one exception: when your utility itself issues a boil-water, do-not-drink or lifted notice, we pass it on right away in their words.
By email, once you confirm. Text alerts are coming soon: check the box and we'll ask you to reply YES before the first one. Reply STOP anytime.
AquaAlert™ is on across Georgia. Sign up with your ZIP code, and add an address if you want alerts for that spot.
It goes to our team only. It isn't posted publicly, and we don't share your email. Reports are kept with their ZIP code and time so patterns in an area show up early.
